Building Our Own Resin Factory

How Chong Mau built its flood-resistant Zhongshan resin plant—home of collector-grade statue manufacturing today.

From rented floors to a factory we own

About twenty-five years ago, Chong Mau bought its own land in Zhongshan and built a dedicated resin factory. That decision grew out of hard lessons: flooding at earlier rented sites, the long process of converting cultivated farmland to industrial use, and a foundation raised more than a metre above the surrounding grade so the plant could weather typhoon rains.

  2. Lesson of the floods In Zhongshan’s Shenwan area, typhoon rains exposed how immature drainage could stop a whole plant overnight.
  3. ~25 years ago → today Tony Lo bought the land, raised the foundation, and built our resin factory — still home today.

From farmland to industrial ground

Rooted in Zhongshan: the choice to build our own base

In the early rise of coastal manufacturing, converting rural land into standard industrial sites was a demanding undertaking. It meant mastering local rules, clarifying compliance procedures, and carrying out large-scale site grading on open ground. Yet we chose the hardest and most solid path: buying land and building our own plant, to put the strongest defence around independent craftsmanship and quality control.

Raising the foundation

One metre above standard grade: a forward-looking quality pledge

More than thirty years ago, the company crossed from Macau into mainland China and began production in rented factory space. Regional drainage in Zhongshan’s Shenwan area was still immature, and the old buildings had not been planned against seasonal flooding. With every typhoon and heavy rain, water repeatedly entered the workshops and posed a severe challenge to the young operation.

That hard lesson became the core of later plant planning. When designing the new site, we chose large-scale pad fill and raised the building foundation more than one metre above standard grade — a quiet but costly decision that still matters today. Whenever extreme weather arrives, that extra metre becomes the strongest defence, silently and reliably protecting customers’ resin products, moulds and finished inventory.

Built for resin craft — not a short-term stopgap

As the multi-storey main plant was completed in sequence — from refined tiled façades and generously lit workshop windows to a gatehouse in the same architectural language — founder Tony Lo’s foresight and resolve took solid form. Owning both the land and the buildings meant production layouts, dedicated curing rooms and storage could be deeply customised around the needs of resin craft, free from the limits of rented space, landlord constraints or frequent moves.

China’s industrial wave around the turn of the millennium ultimately rewarded companies that respected compliance, invested in infrastructure for the long term, and set strategy in ten-year horizons. Chong Mau chose that path of long-termism with conviction.

A base for lasting operations: a steady pledge on quality and craft

Scaffolding, red bricks and works vehicles mark the final stage as the site nears completion. This complete campus we built ourselves carries Chong Mau’s journey from muddy open ground to a top-tier maker of collector-grade statues for the global market.

High-end resin craft depends on environmental stability and continuity — from strict temperature and humidity control and dust discipline to the technical memory our teams accumulate — all rooted in this dedicated base we do not relocate. This plant is the solid proof of our quality commitment to international clients.

Inside the hall

Forward layout: dedicated lines designed for the long run

Even during construction, the workshop hall already showed the rhythm and ergonomic planning of a professional resin plant: parallel troughs, cantilevered workbenches, high-level ventilation and orderly stations. The dedicated space first built for flood and moisture protection later became our solid platform for continuous upgrades — advanced equipment, strict paint discipline, and a full range of OEM / ODM programmes.

Resilience first, then craft. This story of foundation and production lines explains why Chong Mau keeps investing heavily in our Zhongshan headquarters — because only extreme environmental resilience can nurture collector-grade quality that stands firm.

The factory you see today

Finally the factory was completed — the same buildings you see today. The smaller building at the front is our office; behind it is the production workshop where collector-grade resin work continues.

From open earth and a raised foundation to this finished campus, the site remains Chong Mau’s manufacturing home — still evolving, still on the ground Tony Lo chose to own.
